JOHN STONES is destined to play for Barcelona, according to Danny Murphy.
Stones was heavily linked to Chelsea last summer, who had three bids knocked back for the Everton star.
Though Chelsea are expected to resurrect their interest, News News Blog Sport understands Roberto Martinez is desperate to hold onto the centre half and has denied a verbal agreement is in place allowing Stones to quit in the summer.
However, former Liverpool star Murphy believes there is no limit to Stones' talent and thinks he is of the Barcelona mould.
"It’s a difficult one because the general rule would be not to try those things in your box at any point, in any game, unless you’re 4-0 up. And even then, why?," Murphy told talkSPORT.
“But he is an exception to a lot of rules in my book because I think he is potentially the best centre-half we’ve ever had.
“I think he is going to be anything he wants to be. He’s a Barcelona player in waiting.”
Stones only signed a new five-year deal with the Toffees in the summer of 2014.
