Chelsea set to rival Arsenal and Liverpool for £37.6m midfielder

CHELSEA have joined the race for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to reports.

The Swiss international has been the subject on interest from Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks.

The Reds were said to have submitted a £37.6million bid for Xhaka earlier this month as Jurgen Klopp looks to add attacking reinforcements to his injury-laden squad.

But according to German publication Bild, the Blues are also interested in the 23-year-old.

 

And with several big clubs showing interest, Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl is unsure of Xhaka's chances of leaving.

"There are always situations where every club has to think of each option," Eberl told German television station WDR.

"It [a possible sale of Xhaka] depends partly on our sporting success. It depends on the performances of Granit and of course on the price.

 

"As of today we are glad that he is with us and hope that he stays for a long time.

"There's no number [a price threshold] for me."

Xhaka, who is contracted with the German outfit until the summer of 2019, has three goals to his name this season.
