SHAKHTAR DONETSK coach Mircea Lucescu has said he does not want to keep Alex Teixiera “against his desire,” but confirmed Liverpool have to pay £38million to sign the Brazilian forward.

Shakhtar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira is attracting interest from Liverpool

That price-tag remains the sticking point over any deal with little progress having been made since Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre held face to face talks with officials from the Ukraine club in Florida last Wednesday and offered £24.5m.
Shakhtar are sticking to a £38m valuation of the player and Lucescu said: "He’s worth £38m.

"He’s incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Di Maria for example at Paris Saint Germain.
"Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn’t get injured, and every year he gets better and better.

"Our president knows when it is the time for Teixeira to go. I don’t want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship."

Liverpool’s lack of quality in the final third has been a recurring theme this season with last night’s penalty shoot-out victory in the Capital One Cup over Stoke representative of their shortcomings. Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the final having earlier seen Stoke scrub out their first leg advantage.
