ALAN PARDEW claims he is making progress in the transfer market, but Charlie Austin is not on his shopping list.
Crystal Palace will welcome back Bakary Sako when they face Southampton but with injuries and the departure of Patrick Bamford still leave the side short up front.
And while Pardew wouldn't let slip which striker he was interested in, he did respond to Neil Warnock's suggestion that QPR striker Charlie Austin would add something to the Palace squad.
"Charlie Austin is of no interest to us," Pardew said.
"In this media savvy world, you have to know exactly what’s being said.
"I’ve seen all the names that have been linked with us and not one of them is true.
"Somebody’s giving out some false information. It would be stupid of me to be say who is in the frame.
"We are looking at one or two names, but the names that have been linked with us are not them."
Pardew's side have been linked with moves for Emmanuel Adebayor, Simone Zaza, Austin and a whole number of other strikers as they seek to build on a start to the season which sees them sit 7th in the table.
On the subject of the ex-Tottenham striker, who has been without a club since ending his deal at White Hart Lane by mutual consent in September, the manager was similarly unmoved in his answer.
"I’ve seen that link and there’s no truth in it," Pardew added.
