Kevin Mitchell is aiming to take the WBA interim lightweight title |
KEVIN MITCHELL says victory over Ismael Barroso on Saturday can set him up for his dream shot at Upton Park redemption.
West Ham fan Mitchell boxed at the stadium in 2010 but his bubble burst when he was knocked out in the third round by Australian Michael Katsidis.
He has been on the comeback trail ever since but was knocked off path by WBC champion Jorge Linares, who stopped him in 10 rounds, last May in his latest world title challenge.
But he faces Barroso for the WBA interim lightweight title at the 02 Arena on Saturday and said: "Take care of Barroso, then I'll fight Anthony Crolla for the full world title early next year.
"Then what I'm hoping is to get Linares back in the summer and have the last ever event at Upton Park before it closes and we move to the Olympic Stadium.
"The last time I boxed there I was just a young kid, who had split up with my family. I was living the life of half party boy, half pro boxer.
Mitchell was stopped at Upton Park back in 2010, but is vowing to take revenge |
"I was no pro boxer, I was an immature Dagenham boy with a few quid in the bank, spending it like an idiot.
"I'm 31 now, I've matured a lot, I've got my family and I've found happiness - next year you will see me prove it.
