HARRY REDKNAPP has told Tottenham to steer clear of West Brom's Saido Berahino this January.
Mauricio Pochettino had a £15million bid for the England under-21 striker rejected in the summer, after which the 22-year-old submitted a transfer request.
A rift has developed between club and player, and Tony Pulis has not included Berahino in his starting line-up since October 31, but Tottenham will now face competition from Liverpool in the race for the Englishman's signature.
"[Tottenham] are not too far short in the squad when you look at it," Redknapp told
"They're not going to find anyone better than Harry Kane, but it's just if he gets injured.
“They’re talking about the boy at West Brom, but I’m not sure about him.
“It would be a bit of a gamble. His attitude does seem the greatest and you don’t need that.
“There’s a great spirit at Tottenham, a great group of young players all pulling for each other and the manager has done a fantastic job.
"You don’t want to take any chances and disrupt that really."
Tottenham have only lost two Premier League games so far this season, a run which will see them go into 2016 in fourth place, only four points off the top of the table.
And Redknapp sees no reason his former club can't start dreaming of a serious challenge for the title.
"Spurs have been excellent this year, and they just need to put that run together again second half of the season, and there's no reason they can't go all the way," Redknapp added.
"There's no-one running away with it. Tottenham have got a real opportunity this year."
