Thiago Silva thinks Chelsea could be hampered by not having a winter break

 

THIAGO SILVA believes Chelsea's winter schedule will hamper them in their Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

 

The Blues go head-to-head with the runaway Ligue 1 leaders in March and February as they look to cement a place in the quarter-finals.

Jose Mourinho was undone by Laurent Blanc's side last season on away goals in the exact same fixture, despite the visitors going down to 10 men.

 

And PSG's captain Silva, who scored an extra-time equaliser for the French side in that game, believes the lack of a winter break could be Chelsea's undoing yet again.

"Chelsea are playing at Christmas and New Year and that must be a great effort for them, a very difficult moment both mentally and physically," he told Omnisport.

 

"When it comes to the crucial moments of the season, the knockout stages of the Champions League and the end of the local leagues, they are more tired because they didn't have a winter break. 

"I hope we can take advantage of this situation, but in the Champions League you never know what is going to happen."
