LOUIS VAN GAAL delivered a rousing speech at Manchester United's training ground, according to reports.

 

The pressure has been building on Van Gaal, with his side winless in their past six games in all competitions.

Reports have suggested that the Dutch tactician could be axed if United lose away to Stoke on Saturday.

Sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is primed to take over, with a source close to United refusing to deny he has agreed a five-year deal with the Red Devils.

 

Van Gaal, whose contract expires in 2017, was barracked after his side's 2-1 defeat at home to Norwich last weekend.

BBC Sport claim United held an impromptu Christmas function in which Van Gaal delivered a speech stressing the need for the squad to stick together.

The report suggests Van Gaal spoke from the heart and his talk was well received.

It is also believed that Van Gaal spoke of his optimism for the coming year.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Leicester.
