SIR ALEX FERGUSON has given Gary Neville his full backing after the former defender took over the vacant managerial role at Valencia.
The Manchester United legend has joined brother Phil at the club, replacing former boss Nuno who was sacked last month.
He will miss the upcoming league game with Barcelona, but will take charge of his first game in Wednesday's night's Champions League clash with Lyon.
"I am excited and I am proud to have received this huge opportunity with Valencia Football Club," he said.
"I'm looking forward to working with them, I know it's a group of very talented players. I am very excited about the challenge that lies ahead together."
And former boss Ferguson believes Neville will be well suited to management, despite having little experience at such an elite level.
"Gary has many attributes that suggest he will be successful in management," he told Sky Sports News.
"His leadership skills are strong, he's honest and he's hard working."
"He is the type of character who is not afraid of making big decisions, which is a vital skill when leading. I think he'll do well and I wish him, and his brother Phil, good luck."
