Didier Drogba has reportedly been contacted by Roman Abramovich |
DIDIER DROGBA will return to the Chelsea coaching staff at the request of Roman Abramovich, according to reports.
According to African publication Jeune Afrique, the Blues owner called up the former Ivory Coast striker, who played at Stamford Bridge in two stints between 2004 and 2012 and then again for 2014/15 season, hours after the sacking.
It's understood Abramovich wants the Stamford Bridge favourite to work alongside the new interim manager - expected to be former Blues caretaker boss Guus Hiddink.
Drogba is currently with Canadian side Montreal Impact in the MLS but the report claims he will call time on his playing career in order to take up the new position, which will initially be in recruitment.
It adds the 37-year-old will work on earning his coaching badges before eventually taking up a more senior coaching role within the first team.
"He's happy to return to Chelsea," a source told the African newspaper:.
"It's his heart club, even if he felt betrayed by Jose Mourinho, who had not met all obligations to him when he returned to England during the 2014-2015 season."
