NEWCASTLE boss Steve McClaren is ready to bolster his side's survival chances by signing two attacking players in January, according to reports.

McClaren, 54, has endured a difficult start to his reign at St James' Park.
Newcastle currently sit 17th in the Premier League table - two points off the drop zone after 17 games.
They have won just four league games all season, scoring 19 goals.

And The Newcastle Chronicle claims McClaren is looking to rectify the Magpies' season with bids for two English talents.
It is thought the Toon will bid for Tottenham's unwanted winger Andros Townsend in the New Year.
Townsend, 24, is also wanted by Southampton but the promise of game time at St James' Park could persuade the England international towards the north east.

Townsend has made just seven appearances for Spurs all season and needs minutes if he is to gain a spot in Roy Hodgson's England side for Euro 2016.
Not content with adding a midfielder to his ranks, McClaren will also seek to sign QPR striker Charlie Austin.
Austin, 26, was linked with a move away from Loftus Road in the summer after QPR were relegated to the Championship.
Rangers wanted around £15million for their ace - a valuation that deterred his many suitors.

But Austin's contract is set to expire next summer and that could force QPR's hand.
It is thought the London club will at the end of the season - but Newcastle must be prepared to spend big.
Austin has already scored 10 goals for QPR this term, with the club sitting 12th in the Championship heading into their Boxing Day clash at Ipswich.
