De Bruyne has been outstanding in 2015 and starred in the 17 matches he's played for City |
MANUEL PELLEGRINI is considering giving Kevin De Bruyne a breather to prevent him joining football's growing casualty list.
Manchester City, in common with all their title rivals, have suffered a catalogue of injury problems this season and Pellegrini believes it is because the top players, like De Bruyne, play too many games for club and country.
De Bruyne has had a remarkable year for former club Wolfsburg, Manchester City and Belgium but there were signs of tiredness in Tuesday's Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach when he was substituted.
And with the busy Christmas and New Year period approaching, Pellegrini is keeping an eye on the club's £54million record signing.
He said: "Kevin has had a very good season up until now but he is one of the players who has been most exposed to fatigue. We always try to adapt the minutes to those players who have been forced to play a lot of minutes because of injuries to other players.
"At the moment he is coping well this season but we will assess when is best for him to rest to prevent any muscle injuries."
Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany are still missing for Saturday's home clash with Swansea. But Argentine striker Aguero could be back for the showdown with title rivals Arsenal a week on Monday.
