MANCHESTER CITY boss Manuel Pellegrini has sprung to the defence of Yaya Toure after he was branded as "unbelievably selfish" by Liverpool great Jamie Carragher.
The former Reds defender was critical of the Ivorian for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Monday.
Toure made it a tense finish with an excellent strike from outside the box and had a chance to equalise but shot wide.
And after the match, Carragher attacked the midfielder saying: "It just comes back to that fact that he just wants to switch it on when he thinks he can get a goal.
"And you talk about one of your major players, your leaders in a dressing room, that is unbelievably selfish the way he has played tonight."
However Pellegrini refused to single out Toure in his press conference ahead of City's Boxing Day match with Sunderland.
"When you lose a game, the losers are always doing bad things," Pellegrini said.
"The first shot Arsenal had on our goal was on 33 minutes and they scored.
"We dominated the game - maybe we were not aggressive but we had a couple of great chances and Yaya was involved in all of that.
"I never criticise individual performances."
