Manchester United scout Argentinian Arsenal target ahead of potential January bid
Gaitan is a star for Benfica, and has 12 caps for Argentina
MANCHESTER UNITED are keeping a close eye on Argentian attacking midfielder Nicolas Gaitan as he seeks to strengthen his squad in January.

Louis van Gaal has spoken openly about his desire to sign in the transfer window, as he seeks to bring United their 21st top flight title.
And while the big-money signing of Memphis Depay over the summer has failed to work out so far, winger Jesse Lingard's emergence as a potential star has done nothing to dissuade the manager
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Van Gaal's scouts were in attendance in Braga as Benfica beat the home side 2-0 to leapfrog them into third place in the Primeira Liga.

However, the same report also suggested that Benfica have renewed their resolve to keep Gaitan, who has just one goal in the league this season, but has scored three times in his four Champions League appearances.
Even if the Manchester club have an offer accepted, United will face stiff competition for Gaitan, as Arsenal and rivals City are also supposed to be in for the 27-year-old.

Memphis Depay was a big-money signing in the summer, but Van Gaal feels he needs another
United had tried to land the attacker over the summer, but his £25million buyout clause proved a stumbling block.
But stalling contract talks may give the Premier Club the chance to gazump Benfica's attempts to tie down Gaitan for the foreseeable future.
