PAUL SCHOLES believes under-fire manager Louis van Gaal should be given more time at Manchester United.

Manchester United legend backs Louis van Gaal to stay at Old Trafford
Scholes has already fallen out with the United manager after public criticism of the team

After a 2-0 Boxing Day defeat at Stoke, the Dutch boss said he could quit if he wanted to, but speculation is rife that the decision will be made for him.
But Scholes, who made 718 appearances for United and won 11 league titles at the club, is confident that Van Gaal has the experience to turn their form around.
"I don't think Van Gaal should go," Scholes told BT Sport.

"Performances throughout the season haven't been good enough, especially in the last five or six weeks.
"They were winning games earlier in the season but it still wasn't entertaining football.
"The last few weeks they've got the results they deserve but I don't think he should go. He should be given the chance to turn it around.

"He's got great experience, and he's been at massive clubs and done it before."
Van Gaal's position has been made more precarious by the availability of two world-class managers in the form of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.

Mourinho has signalled his interest in taking over at Old Trafford since being sacked by champions Chelsea.
His appointment could be immediate, while United would have to wait until Guardiola's contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season to hire the Spaniard.
