MANCHESTER CITY are prepared to pay an astonishing £400,000-a-week to land Lionel Messi, according to reports.
Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed an interest in Messi but, with Pep Guardiola likely to be City-bound, it appears they're going for the jugular.
If City can land their dream duo it would take their standing in the game up a notch and make them European heavyweights overnight.
The Manchester Evening News cite sources in Spain suggesting that City have made a "tentative approach" to Messi's advisers with the thought of a £20million-a-year deal.
Guardiola is set to join City when he quits Bayern Munich in the summer, meaning Manuel Pellegrini will be dismissed just a year into his new deal.
City have chased the Spaniard ever since the arrival of Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano at the club.
