Liverpool legend speaks out on Daniel Sturridge injury nightmare
Barnes spent ten years at Liverpool, and was in the side that last won the league title
JOHN BARNES has urged Liverpool not to sell Daniel Sturridge.
 
The 26-year-old has been plagued by a series of injuries, the latest of which is .
But Barnes, who made over 300 appearances for the Anfield outfit, believes Sturridge has enough quality that Liverpool must persist through this difficult period.
“You have to have some sympathy for him,” Barnes told Talksport.
 
“It must be very frustrating for him, as well as the club and the fans.
"He’s one of our very important players and we need him. He, along with Coutinho, gives us that little bit of extra class."
Sturridge started on the bench as Liverpool were beaten at St James' Park, but Jurgen Klopp's side badly missed him, with Christian Benteke providing none of the movement that makes the England striker such a threat to defenders.
 

Klopp himself has suggested that Sturridge needs to , suggesting the German is ready to lose patience with his charge.
However, Barnes is adamant that his former club must , although he admits there is no easy answer.
“As to what the solution is, whether you give him four months off to get everything right, I just don’t know," Barnes added.
