Leicester hope to convince Jamie Vardy to stay by offering him a £16million-a-year deal |
JAMIE VARDY will be offered a £16m deal to stay at Leicester.
The club are ready to rip up Vardy's current contract and hand him a whopping new £90,000 a week package.
England recognition and the fact that he is the Premier League's 14-goal top scorer means he has simply outgrown the £45,000 a week deal he signed just 15 months ago.
Vardy, 28, still has two-and-a-half years left, but Leicester are looking to add an additional 12 months on top at double the money to tie him down until June 2019 after a season where last Saturday he broke the Premier League record by scoring in his 11th successive game.
Owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is expected to sanction the deal which would make Vardy the highest earning player in the club's history.
The Leicester star can equal Jimmie Dunne's English top fiight record of 12 against Swansea, who could have signed him from Fleetwood in 2012.
His 14 goals are the same tally as the entire Swansea squad have managed, while his scoring streak started on the last weekend of August, which also happens to be the last time one of the Welsh club's strikers found the net.
