Olivier Giroud is in excellent goalscoring form |
OLIVIER GIROUD has been backed to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title by Harry Redknapp.
The Frenchman scored his 50th Premier League goal for the Gunners in their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday. The 29-year-old has his critics but Redknapp is a fan of striker and feels his goals could take Arsenal to their first title in 12 years. He told the London Evening Standard: "Olivier Giroud is proving he is a good enough striker to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title. "When you look around, Diego Costa is supposed to be a world beater but Giroud’s record is much better this season."You don’t imagine Giroud ever having the same attitude problems as Costa. Okay, Costa had a great season last year but Giroud is threatening to be as effective this time around."He is a real team player and is now becoming clinical in front of goal. If he can continue that in the biggest games, he has to be considered among the best."Leicester’s form has been a miracle but Arsenal will never get a better chance to win the title. They play Manchester City on Monday. City have an average back four without Vincent Kompany and if both he and Sergio Aguero don’t play, Arsenal have to be favourites. "They need to keep their best players fit and Giroud has become a key component of their first-choice team. I tipped them for the title from the start and Giroud’s form means I don’t have to change my mind just yet!"
