Friends? Sam Allardyce reveals truth behind relationship with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Sam Allardyce and Arsene Wenger have had a difficult relationship at times
SUNDERLAND boss Sam Allardyce has spoken of his "huge amount of respect" of Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger after a fractious relationship in the years.

The two managers go head to head in the Premier League this weekend at the Emirates in contrasting form.
The Gunners have not won in three league games while the Black Cats have three successive victories.

During his time as Bolton boss, Allardyce clashed with Wenger on and off pitch.
But he insists their relationship is much more amicable now and had some warm words for the Frenchman.

"I got under his skin but those were the early days," Allardyce said.
"Our meetings have been much more amicable since, on and off the field.

"I've always had a huge amount of respect for him. Winding-up was just a procedure we used as and when it was necessary.
"We've had some good conversations about the progression of football and where we should be going, especially at the younger end in terms of developing a player and getting him in the Premier League.
"If I have a drink with Arsene on Saturday then I want to be talking about the fact we played so well, and does he have any players he might lend me in January!"
