Everton boss Roberto Martinez reportedly tried to sign Powell during his four-year spell in charge of Wigan.

Powell has been out if action for most of the season with a knee injury, but has made two substitute appearances in the recent defeats to Wolfsburg and Bournemouth.
The former England Under-21 international, who was sent back from his loan spell at Leicester after failing to impress, joining United from Crewe in 2012.

"Nick's worked extremely hard," Joyce said. "It's been a testing time, as you expect when you're injured and obviously out for this amount of time with an injury.
"But his attitude has been outstanding in the gym and out on the training field.
"I think, to be fair, he is looking in the best condition he has ever been in his life. Hopefully, he kicks on with that now when the games start coming."
