Ronald De Boer reckons Louis van Gaal should be given more time at Man United |
RONALD DE BOER has urged Manchester United fans to be patient with under-fire boss Louis van Gaal - insisting he will bring success back to Old Trafford.
The 64-year-old has come under criticism in recent weeks from fans and former players for United's 'boring' style of football and the pressure on the Dutchman increased even further after being both being dumped out of the Champions League and losing 2-1 to Premier League minnows Bournemouth.
United's defeat to the Cherries saw their winless streak extend to five games and if they carry on this vein they will do significant damage to their title bid and it could see United wield the axe on Van Gaal sooner rather than later.
De Boer, who won three Eredivisie titles and one Champions League under Van Gaal at Ajax, admits the fear factor has disappeared from Old Trafford but insists results will improve if they give him more time.
“Sometimes when teams enter a stadium they already know they’re going to give three points away, but it this moment that’s not the case," De Boer told talkSport.
“I think that if you spend as much money as Manchester United have over the last two years, you can expect criticism if you aren’t performing. But I’m a Van Gaal fan, he’s one of the best managers I’ve ever worked with.
“I believe in him, I stand behind him and I think in the end he will do it.
“They’re only two wins away from Leicester at the top of the league, so they’re still very much in the hunt for the title.
“We just have to be patient.”
