Davila was a prospect that never worked out at Chelsea |
ULISES DAVILA has signed a three-year contract with Mexican club Santos Laguna after four years with Chelsea.
The Mexican youth international signed with the London club in 2011 but failed to make a single appearance in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old had five separate loan spells away from Chelsea, the most recent of which took him to Vitoria in Portugal.
But now, after failing to settle at one club in Europe, the midfielder has signed a deal which will take him back to the country of his birth.
Described by the Blues as a "accomplished with the ball at his feet and a fine finisher with a strong team ethic", Davila has appeared for Mexico at Under-20 and Under-23 level. He was also called up to the senior national squad for the first time at the age of just 20 for the 2011 Copa America, but failed to make a single appearance. And now returning to his home country, Davila is hoping to make an impact with Santos in Mexico's top division.
“It’s great to see the interest from Santos and everyone who has given me confidence from the beginning since they sought me out,” Davila told the Santos club website.“I’m eager to continue in my career, to be a major player and I think (this opportunity) comes at the perfect time. "I am mature, physically fit and eager, with a strong will to compete and do important things with this club.”
