DAVID SILVA hopes a win over title rivals Arsenal on Monday can be the springboard for a strong championship push by Manchester City in the second half of the season.
City have struggled for consistency this season, losing four of their first 16 games, but have missed their key trio of playmaker Silva, striker Sergio Aguero and skipper Vincent Kompany for long periods.
But Spain international Silva now has four games under his belt since returning from an ankle injury, Aguero is set to return at the Emirates after a heel problem and Kompany should be fully recovered from his troublesome calf injury by the New Year.
Silva said: “It would be very important to beat Arsenal – they are a direct rival. It would be fantastic to beat them and start a good run of wins.
“It will be very difficult. We have seen this season any team can beat any other team, but it will be good to start a good run of form and finish the season strongly.
“We are in the fight for all the competitions at the moment. Obviously, we are hoping to get all the players back from injury, and once we do that we can really push on.”
Silva admits he is still finding his rhythm after a nine-game lay-off with an ankle injury suffered in a bad tackle from a Luxembourg player while playing in a Euro 2016 qualifier in October.
He added: “I had a few problems with my ankle at the start of the season but I was able to play. Unfortunately, that tackle [against Luxembourg] meant I was injured again. But I'm back now, still getting the rhythm, and hopefully soon I'll be 100 per cent.”
