Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel could be set for a January move to Galatasaray |
JOHN OBI MIKEL could leave Chelsea and join Turkish outfit Galatasaray in January, according to reports in Turkey.
The Nigeria international has become a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge, having made just nine appearances for Jose Mourinho's side this season.
Mikel also made just six starts in Chelsea's Premier League title-winning campaign last year due to being pushed to the sidelines by first-choice defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic.
And according to Turkish outlet Takvim, Galatasaray are now planning to make contact with Chelsea in the coming days to try and agree a fee believed to be in the region of £5.7million for the 28-year-old.
Mikel's current deal with the Blues runs until 2017 but the club are unlikely to offer him a new one and could take advantage of Galatasaray's interest next month.
Fellow Turkish side Besiktas have also registered their interest in signing the midfielder, with club president Fikret Oman admitting that they could come back in for the player they tried to sign in the summer.
“If (Senol) Gunes had given the go-ahead we were going to sign Mikel (last summer), and we could enter the race again over the winter break," Oman said.
