BESIKTAS have stepped up their interest in John Obi Mikel.
The Turkish club are planning an approach for the midfielder in January.
Besikas registered interest in Mikel in the summer only for manager Senol Gunes to look elsewhere.
But the club's president admits they could come back for the Chelsea man when the transfer window re-opens.
Besiktas president Fikret Oman said: “If Gunes had given the go-ahead we were going to sign Mikel (last summer), and we could enter the race again over the winter break.”
The 28-year-old has made just one Premier League start so far this season despite Jose Mourinho's side's struggles.
Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas have come under fire and Mourinho recently promised Ruben Loftus-Cheek more game time leaving Mikel's situation uncertain.
Chelsea are also considering going back in for Paul Pogba and have an interest in Porto youngster Ruben Neves.
