Brendan Galloway has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at Everton |
BRENDAN GALLOWAY has agreed a lucrative, new contract at Everton which reflects his rapid rise into Premier League starlet.
The 19-year-old has been rewarded with a fresh, long-term deal that runs until June 2020 within 16-months of arriving at Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee from MK Dons.
Galloway signed a five-year contract when he moved to Merseyside, but that has been ripped up following his eye-catching progress for Roberto Martinez’s side.
An injury to Leighton Baines at the start of the season, which came when Luke Garbutt had moved on loan to Fulham, opened the door for Galloway.
Galloway has taken full advantage of Leighton Baines' absence from the first-team |
Galloway has made 14 starts for Everton and also broken into the England U21 squad and Martinez was effusive in his praise of the teenager recently.
“He has become a Premier League footballer,” said Martinez, who gave him his debut against West Ham last May.
“Brendan is an incredible character. You get players who sometimes have self-doubt and they have difficulties in becoming lead footballers.
“It is the opposite with Brendan. He has an elite brain and nothing fazes him. It doesn’t matter if he needs to make his debut against West Ham away from home or he has to play against Chelsea.
“It doesn’t faze him at all. The key with Brendan is making him an all-round left back and then an all-round centre-half, without seeing a centre-half playing as a left back or a left-back filling in at centre-half.
“That is the next target for him. The playing time will come - I have no worries about that.”
“I’m really happy to commit my future here,” said Galloway.
“This is a club that has got so much young talent and is moving forward. It’s great to be able to commit to being a part of that.
“My family came up to watch me sign so it was nice to have them around. They have been with me all the way.”
