Pep Guardiola will leave Bayern at the end of the season |
PEP GUARDIOLA informed Bayern Munich at their Christmas party of his intention to leave the club, according to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Guardiola will quit the reigning Bundesliga champions at the end of the season with Carlo Ancelotti, who is currently on a sabbatical, to succeed the in-demand Spaniard.
Manchester City have been heavily linked with Guardiola, with rumours rife about Manuel Pellegrini's future.
Chelsea have also been courting Guardiola as their next permanent manager following Jose Mourinho's sacking last week.
Manchester United, who failed to land in Guardiola in 2013 following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, could make a move with Louis van Gaal's future hanging in the balance.
Though the media were left guessing over Guardiola's future last week, Bayern chairman Rummenigge claims he wasn't angry with Guardiola when he learned he had made his mind up.
"He came over to me two weeks ago at our Christmas party and told me that he was looking for a new challenge," Rummenigge told German paper Bild.
"He was almost apologetic. I'm not disappointed in him."

Rummenigge also believes there were some tell tale signs that weren't spotted in the summer that Guardiola would leave.
"You could read between the lines and that was something that we should have interpreted," Rummenigge added.
"We did take note of it, but we just wanted to give him time to make up his mind in peace."
