Arsene Wenger has been urged by former Gunners midfielder Charlie Nicholas to make a move for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.
He told Soccer Saturday: “It makes sense for me to go for someone between the age of 30-32. There are a few about and if I was Arsenal I would go for Carrick.
“I am not saying he would play every week but Carrick could teach as well as play. Someone has to teach these players how to play positions.”
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Mark Warburton has confirmed Arsenal’s Gedion Zelalem will remain on loan at the Scottish Championship outfit until the end of the season.
Warburton said of the 18-year-old midfielder: "Gedion is staying with us. We talked to Arsenal, that’s an on-going process."
The United States Under-23 international has been key for Rangers this term, assisting six goals in 15 outings and bagging one in the process.
And finally, Arsenal have been dealt a blow in Jack Wilshere’s recovery from a from a hairline fracture to his left leg as the midfielder faces another two months on the sidelines.
Wenger said: “He will not be back before February. That’s for sure. I say February but honestly I don’t know. I let him do his recovery. It’s going slowly.
"Once he goes outside to train and is back again into sharp, hard work physically, you count five or six weeks. At the moment he is not there yet."
