Memphis Depay could come back into the side to lead the line, such is the club's injury crisis |
WAYNE ROONEY and Anthony Martial are set to miss Manchester United's trip to Watford tomorrow as the club were thrown into injury crisis.
Manager Louis van Gaal confirmed Wayne Rooney is suffering from an illness, while Anthony Martial has not recovered form the injury that saw him leave Wembley on crutches on Tuesday night.
Marouane Fellaini, who would normally come in as the makeshift striker, will also miss the trip to Vicarage Road.
Here, News News Blog Sport brings you five players who could come in to help ease their worries.
Memphis Depay
The £25million summer signing has struggled to settle since moving form PSV.
While he is a natural winger, the 21-year-old does have an eye for goal and Van Gaal has already spoken out in praise of his versatility.
The Dutchman could now be thrown back into the action despite losing his place in the first XI in recent weeks.
Depay has scored one goal in eight Premier League games this season and three in the Champions League.
James Wilson might be the obvious choice if Louis van Gaal wants a traditional striker |
James Wilson
Wilson is the obvious choice if Van Gaal opts for a more traditional No.9.
The boss has already turned down advances from a number of Championship clubs, who were keen to take Wilson on loan.
And now could be the highly rated striker's chance to shine. Wilson has made just one appearance in the Premier League this season and another in the League Cup.
He is yet to find the back of the net this term.
Juan Mata's keen eye for goal makes the Spaniard a realistic option |
Juan Mata
Could fill in as a false nine if Van Gaal opts for a similar system to Mata's national team.
The Spaniard has chipped in with a number of important goals over the past year and has a habit of ghosting into the box at the right time.
As an adept finisher, you'd back him to find the back of the net if presented with the opportunity.
Could ultimate utility man Phil Jones fill in up front? |
Phil Jones
Seriously? Yes, Why Not? Jones is the ultimate utility man and striker might be the only position he is yet to play for United. Did I see him in goal once? Maybe not.
Anyway, Van Gaal likes a big striker, as outlined by his tendency to bring on Fellaini late in games.
I'm not sure United fans would be convinced by his composure in front of goal but he has a decent turn of pace, which was underpinned by a previous run at right-back.
Andreas Pereira endeared himself to United fans with a superb free-kick against Ipswich this season |
Andreas Pereira
The United faithful fell in love with the Brazilian winger after his superb goal against Ipswich in the Capital One Cup.
Despite an encouraging display, he has been overlooked for first-team duties since, but could be called upon to add some unpredictability to the front line.
He knows where the goal is, having netted 13 times at various youth levels for Belgium, before pledging his allegiance to Brazil.
