CRISTIANO RONALDO will be offered a £250,000-a-week contract to rejoin Manchester United, it was revealed today.
United manager Louis van Gaal yesterday said he wants to sign former Old Trafford star Ronaldo.
"With Ronaldo, let's wait and hope," Van Gaal said.
"Ronaldo plays on the wings and he is fast and scores goals. There is no trainer in the world that doesn't like him.
"Of course we are looking at all players - not just Ronaldo."
The Mail on Sunday claim he will be offered a huge contract to play for the Red Devils - slightly more than the £245,000-a-week deal he is currently on at the Bernabeu.
But would his new wages make the Portuguese the best-paid player in England?
News News Blog Sport takes a look at who are the biggest earners in the Premier League.
Fifth. Eden Hazard (Cheslea) - £220,000
Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard was crowned the Premier League's player of the year last season and for good reason. The Belgium international was instrumental in Chelsea's charge to a fourth Premier League title.
He scored 21 goals for club and country last term and was on the Ballon D'Or shortlist for 2014.
However, Hazard has under performed this campaign and has been dropped for big Champions League games by manager Jose Mourinho.
The 24-year-old is understood to be wanted by Real Madrid, who see him as a replacement for Ronaldo if his United transfer goes through.
Joint-third. Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) £240,000
Manchester City's millions mean that they can compete with the biggest clubs in the world to keep their players happy on mega contracts.
The two-time Premier League champions have Ivorian Yaya Toure locked down until 2017, while Argentina sensation Sergio Aguero is under contract until 2019.
Toure has been the driving force of City's midfield ever since his £24m move from Barcelona in 2010. The deep-lying midfielder has been named African Footballer of the Year for the past five seasons.
As for Aguero, the striker plays under the shadow of Lionel Messi when on international duty but is very much the big fish at City.
The 27-year-old boasts nine goals for the season and was instrumental in City winning their two titles in the Premier League era.
However, knee injuries have hampered his time at City and he is unlikely to pick up a similar wage when negotiating his next contract at the age of 31.
Second. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United?) £250,000
Cristiano Ronaldo made a point at being the highest-paid player at Real Madrid when he agreed his £245,000-a-week deal a few years ago.
The Portugal superstar strives to be the best in every capacity, including earning more than anyone else.
Were United to sign Ronaldo, with the Mail on Sunday claiming a £60m bid would be required to secure the deal, he would demand a hefty pay packet.
But after scoring the most goals in Champions League history (82) while at Real and scoring a record 33 hat tricks in La Liga, it appears Ronaldo is ready for a new challenge.
The MLS is understood to be keen on rivalling United's efforts to sign him, while Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.
First. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) £300,000
Surely the England captain should be the best-paid player in England, right? Wayne Rooney signed his controversial £300,000-a-week contract at United in February last year after initially seeking an exit from the club.
He had already penned a £200,000-a-week deal in 2010 after making the same threat when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager.
Rooney, 30, is also United's captain but his goalscoring record this season has put his place in the first team into question.
The former Everton youngster boasts seven goals for the season, although he has scored just once in his last six appearances.
