JOSE MOURINHO remains "The One" all Inter fans would love back at the club, says president Erick Thohir.
Mourinho, 52, managed the San Siro giants for a short period between 2008 and 2010.
It was a tumultuous reign for the Portuguese, who is now in charge of Chelsea, but did end with Inter winning the Champions League.
And while Thohir gave his full backing to current manager Roberto Mancini, he accepted the fans are eager for their old boss to return one day.
“Mourinho? For all the Nerazzurri fans he’s The One,” Thohir told Italian station TV One.
“But we agreed a project with Mancini and we consider him to be the right man.
“He’s committed to rebuilding Inter in the next two or three years and I think that the results are pretty satisfactory.
“The Scudetto? It’s an open title race.”
Mourinho is reportedly a contender to take over in Milan should Mancini get the boot, which is a concern in Italy despite the boss leading Inter to the top of the Serie A.
Both men are under pressure to get results and it emerged last month that Mourinho had sent feelers out to French side PSG as well as Inter to assess the whether or not he would be wanted, should Chelsea sack him.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich has so far given his backing to Mourinho, whose side ended a three-game winless streak in the Premier League with a 1-0 triumph over Norwich on Saturday.
Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti said today that he would be interested in returning to Stamford Bridge, although a move back to Serie A appears unlikely for the ex-Milan head coach.
