Phil Jones says Wayne Rooney is not the 'best' England striker |
PHIL JONES doesn't believe his Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney is England's 'best' striker.
The England captain became the all-time leading goalscorer this year, surpassing Bobby Charlton's record with 50 goals.
However, his recent form at club level has been dire, netting only two times in the Premier League this season.
By comparison, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have been in fine form, with the Leicester front-man scoring in nine consecutive league games.
And Jones admits that while Rooney is 'up there' as an England striker, he cannot pinpoint who is the best.
"We have a lot of good strikers. You cannot pinpoint a specific striker as who is the best, but he is up there," he said.
"There has been a lot of speculation about him but he is Manchester United's captain, England's captain, the all-time scoring record holder and it speaks for itself.
"He is tough in training. Wayne is Wayne. He is a finisher, talker, scorer, leader and is aggressive. You need those players in your team."
England take on Spain in an international friendly on Friday before facing France at Wembley on November 17.
