MANCHESTER UNITED want to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.
The Chile winger, who signed for Arsenal from Barcelona in 2014, is on Louis van Gaal's radar after an explosive start to life in England.
Sanchez has scored 22 goals in 45 games since the £35million move and was in stunning form as Arsenal beat United 3-0 last month.
He scored twice and has seven for the season as Arsenal sit level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
According to Spanish website site Don Balon, Louis van Gaal has told the 26-year-old that he could be the 'cornerstone' of the United side.
United famously signed Robin van Persie from Arsenal in 2012 however only 15 players have ever played for both clubs.
A move would seem unlikely with Sanchez seemingly settled in London and having turned down a move to Liverpool because he wanted to live in the capital.
United, however, are desperate to land more players with pace and have also been linked with Sadio Mane, Ayoze Perez, Neymar and Riyad Mahrez.
Van Gaal admitted his side lacked explosiveness this week.
"I have said already in my first year many times we need speed and creativity on the wings," he said.
“You have seen that now we play with Jesse Lingard and he is not the most speedy winger in the world and Mata is also not the most speedy winger in the world.
“So first we must first finish that problem and then we can see how we have to play and how we are in balance with playing with speedy wingers.”
