Thomas Muller has 'hesitated' over signing a new contract at Bayern Munich, according to Kicker.
The Bundesliga champions want to tie the 26-year-old down until 2021, but after 'several rounds of talks', have failed to reach an agreement with Muller - who is understood to be weighing up his options.
Manchester United attempted to sign the German forward for £50million in the summer, but Louis van Gaal failed to lure him to to the club.
Carlos Puyol could help United sign Barcelona defender Marc Bartra.
Bartra is see to become Puyol's first client after recently becoming a football agent.
And Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reckon Puyol's influence could help push the 24-year-old towards the Old Trafford door.
Van Gaal is said to be a 'good friend' of Puyol's, having managed him twice at Barcelona.

The 20-year-old has been stepping up his recovery from a broken leg he sustained in United's Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven, but the Red Devils boss will give him an extra four days off because he was struggling with the daily routine.
“I think the first match was very disappointing, not only because of the result but because if the loss of Luke Shaw.
“For us he is a very important player and I said in advance already he would be the revelation of the season and he was on his way to do that."
He added: “Shaw was fed up with the daily routine and I saw why he was fed up - maybe because it was PSV.”
