MANCHESTER UNITED have posted record revenues for the first quarter of this season – thanks partly to their new sponsorship deal with Adidas and the club's return to the Champions League.

United brought in £123.6m from July 1 to September 30 – up 39 per cent on the same period last season.
It coincided with the start of their 10-year £750m deal kit deal with Adidas which began on August 1 and United bringing the management of the Old Trafford megastore under their own management – it had previously been run by previous kit suppliers Nike.
Apart from Adidas, United also announced four new sponsors during the quarter – HCL, Marathon bet, Nexon and Donaco.

Two home Champions League games – against Bruges, in the qualifying round, and Wolfsburg – plus a Capital One Cup home tie against Ipswich boosted match day revenues.
But the return to Europe’s top club competition meant the wage bill increased because of players bonuses.
United spent £49.9m on six new players in the summer – Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Sergio Romero and Anthony Martial.

That was a decrease of £6m on the corresponding quarter last year, although the transfer fees will not have all been paid up front.
Ed Woodward, United’s executive vice chairman, commented, “Our record first quarter revenues and EBITDA demonstrate the continued strength of our businesses.
“We are delighted with the early progress made in licensing. During the quarter we entered into an agreement with HCL to be our Digital Transformation partner, which will enable us to connect with our fans around the world in innovative ways and further strengthen and grow our commercial revenues.”
