Liverpool legend: Why Manchester United's Anthony Martial is hated so much

ANTHONY MARTIAL must play through the middle for Manchester United because defenders hate playing against his pace.

That is the view of former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson, who says should play off striker Wayne Rooney against West Brom today.
"United play with two holding players and I think you only need one at most," Lawrenson said on Radio 5 Live.

"And stick Martial down the middle - defenders hate pace, so play him up front with Rooney behind him, and you have a different-looking side instantly.
"The defence is firm but it's very safety-first in front of it."
United manager Louis van Gaal has stuck to the same team that beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 on Tuesday night, in which his decision to sub off Martial was booed by United fans.
The France midfielder has scored five goals for United this season, including a debut strike against Liverpool back in September.
