JOHN ALDRIDGE insists Liverpool need to forget the war of words with Raheem Sterling and concentrate on marking the Manchester City star out of the game when the two teams meet at the Etihad on Saturday.
Sterling's agent Aidy Ward has been typically outspoken in the lead up to the game, insisting his client was right to leave Anfield in the summer because of a fall-out with former manager Brendan Rodgers.
But Reds legend Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: "I thought it was a bit cheap for Ward to take shots at Brendan Rodgers.
"Now that he has been sacked. It’s a bit of a cop out, if you ask me, and unfair to a manager who helped mould Sterling into the player he is today."
Aldridge is keen for that to be put aside and thinks Liverpool's main focus should be making a plan to stop their former player, who has sparkled since joining the Premier League leaders.
"The main issue is how Liverpool handle Sterling on the pitch this weekend," he added.

"Forget what his agent says, they’ve just got to mark him out of the game.
"It’ll be tough. For all his faults, he’s still a quality player, and he’ll be full of confidence after some decent performances of late.
"You imagine he would feel he has a point to prove to the Liverpool fans, who will give him a cool reception on the night.
"It’s up to whoever is marking him – and I hope it’s Nathaniel Clyne – to make sure he’s kept silent at the Etihad. If he can manage it, then we will have a chance."
