SAUSAGES and bacon are two of the main components in a world-famous Full English breakfast, but could they soon be things of the past?
Brits were warned off sausages and bacon recently - amongst other processed meat products - by the World Health Organisation.
The tasty breakfast products are enjoyed the world-over by millions of people every day, but one hotel chain is hoping to put a stop to that.
The Comfort Hotels group has announced it's 'banned' sausages and bacon from its breakfast menu.
This means those who book themselves in for a night at a Comfort Hotel will be offered healthier, plant-based alternatives with their toast.
Petter Stordalen, Comfort Hotel's owner, spoke to Hegnar.no about the new regime. He explained: "This is a new breakfast concept for Comfort-our hotels.
"Comfort is a youthful and innovative concept that wants to adapt to new trends and expectations for tomorrow's customers.
"Where do we think guests will appreciate a good, healthy start to the day with new materials and new solutions."
The news comes as it was revealed British sausages makers are preparing to sue the World Health Organisation for their latest release.
Denis Lynn - who runs £50million Lynn’s Country Foods - claims the UN’s press release branded his product a potential killer through its "clumsily structured" report.
He said: "The WHO has taken leave of its senses. It is absurd to lump safe British sausages in with the rest. Eating one of our sausages carries no more of a risk than tucking into a pork chop."
His lawyers added: "While we appreciate the job your organisation has in properly highlighting health risks in food consumption, it cannot be applied in such a way as to damage innocent businesses such as ours."
Could this be the end of the humble sausage or is this just a blip on the product's radar? Only time will tell.
