David Moyes insists it will be difficult for a manager to succeed at Manchester United |
DAVID MOYES insists that it will be difficult for a manager to follow in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson and bring success back to Manchester United.
The former Red Devils boss, who was sacked after just ten months at Old Trafford after succeeding Ferguson, is looking for a new job after suffering the same fate at Spanish outfit Real Sociedad.
Like Moyes, current boss Louis van Gaal has come under criticism at United, and the Scotsman doesn’t think it will get any easier to be in charge for a while because of the expectation that comes with the job.
“Whoever is manager was going to find it difficult," the 52-year-old said in an interview with the Sun.
"And I think they are going to find it difficult for quite a period to come as well.
“Following Sir Alex and the success he had over numerous years was going to be hard for anybody to follow. It was difficult for me.
“I was only in very quickly, I think it is a bigger job — it is a longer term job.
“I don’t think it’s a short-term job to get Manchester United back.
“I think there needed to be an overall change. And, again, the manager Sir Alex had been there so long and was so good.
“It’s a tough job and I think it’s going to continue to be a tough job for a wee while yet.”
Van Gaal hopes to win the Premier League title by the end of his three year contract in 2017, and his team could go top of the league with a positive result against Watford - so long as results go their way.
While Moyes, who has been linked with the Leeds job this week added: “I’m happy to have some time off but I’m also ready to go.”
