Germany star Thomas Muller says he is happy to remain at Bayern Munich |
THOMAS MULLER insists he is not interested in moving to Manchester United.
The midfielder, 26, was subject to major interest from United manager Louis van Gaal over the summer months.
Arsenal were also considered suitors for a short period but reportedly backed off after learning his transfer free.
United lodged a £60million bid for the Germany international but his club Bayern Munich rejected the advance.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern’s chief executive, even publicly warned United to stop enquiring into his availability.
And in an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Muller explained that he has no interest in switching to United - although he stopped short on saying he would end his career in Munich.
“I heard what Rummenigge said and it’s nice for me to hear it,” Muller said, when reminded that Rummenigge once explained that the midfielder was the heart of the Bayern team.
“There are never any guarantees in football but I do have a four-year contract and when I go on the pitch and hear fans shout my name, that’s something special.”
Asked specifically about United’s interest and Rummenigge’s response, he replied: “The club, as Rummenigge showed, denied it straight away, so it’s not up for discussion.”
Muller won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and boasts four Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and a Champions League winners medal in his trophy cabinet.
As for United, they signed Muller’s Bayern team-mate, Bastian Schweinsteiger, before the September transfer deadline, while Arsenal failed to land a single outfield player over the off-season.
