Jose Mourinho says he won't be making transfers during January |
NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you all the latest news from Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho insists he will not ask the Chelsea board for money to sign new players.
Chelsea are understood to be interested in a number of players as the January transfer window draws near.
They currently sit 16th in the Premier League, with strikers Loic Remy, Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao netting three top-flight goals between them this season.
But Mourinho is sure he has the players required to rekindle their league form.
“I will not ask for any changes [in the transfer window],” he said.
“I’m happy with the players I have. I trust the players I have. I don’t need to ‘clean’ the dressing room, as I heard has been written. And I don’t need to ask the club to spend money in January.
“We put ourselves in a great situation together by being champions. Now we put ourselves together in this situation in the Premier League; so we have to be together, again, to put it right.”
Laurent Blanc says his contract at Paris Saint-Germain is close to being renewed, ending any likelihood of Jose Mourinho taking up the role.
Mourinho, 52, reportedly sent his advisors out to assess PSG as a possible option should he be sacked by Chelsea.
But Blanc has revealed that he should pen a new deal soon.
"We are talking with the club to effectively extend (my contract). It's currently being negotiated and discussed," Blanc said.
"It is at this point and there is no decision yet. When that is completed, we will tell you.
"It was not us who asked the club to start negotiations but the club who called us.
"We were delighted. There is nothing definitive yet, but already it is a good thing for us and for PSG."
The Portuguese also explored the possibility of taking over at Inter, it is claimed.
Michael Essien has been helping Baba Rahman settle in to life at Chelsea.
Rahman has made just seven appearances for the Blues since joining from Augsburg in a £21.7million summer move.
But he admitted to the London Evening Standard that he has struggled to adjust to life in London, and that Chelsea legend Essien has been looking out for him.
“Michael knew I was coming to Chelsea in the summer. He has helped me a lot. He has been giving me advice since I joined, telling me to keep fighting and that I will be a success here.
“I have been in contact with him since the start of the season. It’s great to have someone like Michael taking an interest in me and I get a lot of tips from him.
“He is a big hero in Ghana. I like him a lot personally. He is one of the greatest players Ghana has ever produced.
“It was difficult when I came here. But I am trying to incorporate myself into the team.
“It’s difficult to get in the side, but when you have the chance you just have to perform.”
