Michael Hector is currently on a season-long loan with Reading |
CHELSEA want to cut Michael Hector's loan spell and bring him back to Stamford Bridge, according to Reading.
The Blues bought the centre-back from the Royals in the summer and immediately loaned him back to the Championship side on a season-long loan deal.
However, Chelsea have suffered a terrible start to the defence of their Premier League title, with the club conceding 23 goals in their opening 13 league games.
As a result of their defensive struggles, Blues boss Jose Mourinho was keen on bolstering his backline by recalling Hector, but Reading are determined to keep hold of the Jamaica international.
Reading executive Samrit Thanakanchanasut told Goal: "Chelsea want him back early but I think we'll retain him as we agreed until the end of the season."
Royals manager Steve Clarke, who was previously Mourinho's assistant at Chelsea, is full of praise for the 23-year-old.
He recently told Getreading: "Michael reads the game well, he sticks his head on the ball, can make tackles and can pass out from the back as well.
"He's got a lot of good attributes which is why Chelsea decided to take him on board. Hopefully he goes on to have a big career with them."
