Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal's can win the Premier League title if they avoid the Europa League.
The Gunners are on course to be knocked out of the Champions League after suffering a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Group F, but Petit reckons if they exit Europe then they will have a chance to win their first Premier League title in 11 years.
“What they don’t want is to finish third [in the group] and go in the Europa League,” said Petit.
“There is so much travel in that competition and Thursday night football. If they go out of the Champions League, better to finish last in the group. Then they can concentrate on the Premier League – which I believe they can still go on and win. “
Mathieu Debuchy had been told by Didier Deschamps to leave Arsenal or risk losing out on a place in the France squad for Euro 2016.
Debuchy is the Gunners' back-up right-back to Hector Bellerin and has subsequently been left out of Deschamps' France squad for international friendlies with Germany and England.
And with the Euros looming, Deschamps reckons the 30-year-old has some serious decisions to make about his future.
"Mathieu Debuchy is in a position where he is playing very little, when he does play, look at yesterday’s result," he said.
"If he has a decision to make in December or January… He hasn’t lost his quality, he’s playing very little.
The Gunners and the two Manchester clubs all had representatives at the Portuguese club's Champions League win over Galatasaray on Tuesday.
Premier League leaders City are the favourites to land the Argentine.
