ROBERT PIRES says he expects Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season because his former club have quality all over the pitch and a new-found air of confidence.
The Gunners have not won the title since 2004, when legend Pires was terrorising defenders on the wing.
But the Frenchman is now back training with the club and is pleasantly surprised by what he has seen since his return.
"I’ve been training with the first team every morning because I keep in good conversation with Arsene Wenger and for me it’s good, I hope the players feel the same," he told The Metro.
"Sometimes I give some tips and advice to young players and I’m feeling good about it."
Second-placed Arsenal are currently level on points with leaders Manchester City after 12 games this term.
And Pires, 42, hopes the spirit in the camp can give them the edge over their rivals when they enter the crucial stage of the season.
"Seriously, the atmosphere is very good. The players are feeling great, we are in the same position as Manchester City and when I see Arsenal play it is the best style, we’re doing well and we can win the title."
In years gone by, Pires's former club have fallen agonisingly short and appeared to lack the experience to mount a serious title tilt.
However, a number of players can no longer use that as an excuse and went into the current campaign on the back of succesive FA Cup triumphs.
"Some players have grown up, they’ve gained the experience like Francis Coquelin, Theo Walcott or even Olivier Giroud for example so this is very important," Pires added.
"When you see the play on the pitch the team is very good, the quality is very nice I think we can win the league. We have Ozil, we have Cazorla and we have Sanchez so for me it is exciting."
He continued: "The titles is the objective for this season. He [Wenger] is confident because he believes in the squad, he knows the quality is very good."
