ANDY ROBERTSON gave manager Steve Bruce’s bid to take Hull back to the Premier League a shot in the arm.

Scotland left-back Robertson grabbed the first goal in a 2-0 victory at Brentford that ended the Bees’ four-game winning run and Sam Clucas’s late effort ensured Bruce’s men headed the five-club log-jam at the top.
“It’s nice to be there but let’s not get too carried away, it’s only 15 games,” said Bruce.
With Burnley also winning, it made for a frustrating night for Chris Hughton and Brighton. The Seagulls remain the Championship’s only unbeaten side but the 0-0 draw at Capital One Cup heroes Sheffield Wednesday dropped them into third place.

Middlesbrough stayed fourth with Stewart Downing’s goal enough for a 1-0 win over bottom club Rotherham. Derby are hot on Boro’s heels after Andy Weimann’s second-half strike in a 1-0 win over QPR.
Alex Mowatt lifted some of the gloom over crisis-torn Leeds with a superb strike against Cardiff that earned his side a first home win in 13 games – Steve Evans’ first success since taking the Elland Road reins a fortnight ago.
Relegation-threatened Charlton’s goal drought stretched to over seven hours in a 1-0 defeat at MK Dons. Caretaker boss Karel Fraeye said: “We must keep believing.”
