AXEL WITSEL looks set for a possible move to AC Milan after the Italian giants stepped up their efforts to sign the Belgian international, according to reports in Italy.
Tottenham tried to sign the midfielder in the summer but were pushed away by Zenit St Petersburg when a £73million price tag was planted on his head.
However, Corriere dello Sport understands the 26-year-old will be available for a more realistic fee of £21million next summer.
But it looks as if the Serie A giants will be the favourites to secure his services with Spurs being given the cold shoulder by former boss Andre Villas-Boas.
It is understood a concrete bid to sign the playmaker will not be made by Milan until next summer’s European Championships, as Sinsa Mihajlovic looks to assess his performances throughout the tournament before making a move.
Spurs will continue to monitor the situation and may come in with a counter offer once a figure has been put on the table.
Witsel joined Zenit from Benfica for £28million in 2012, and has made 19 appearances - scoring two goals for the Russian side this season.
