AMAZON is believed to be on the verge of launching a live television channel for its new shows – including the latest from former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Amazon is preparing a live television channel, according to sources close to the matter.
The US online retailer already has an on-demand service, which is bundled with its annual Prime subscription bundle.
But now Amazon is believed to be preparing to roll-out a new live television channel, which will be used to air its original programming.
Amazon recently agreed to buy Elemental Technologies – a video encoding and transcoding company – which one analyst believes hints at the firm's plans to transmit live TV online.

The online firm has recently doubled down on its original TV shows for Prime Instant Video.
Amazon signed former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and producer Andy Wilman for a new motoring show.
Details on the new Amazon Prime series are sparse. However a holding firm with close connections to Clarkson recently registered a trademark for a new show called Gear Knobs.
Jeremy Clarkson yesterday tweeted a glimpse of the new show.
Amazon revealed a major refresh to its
Fire TV box, which boasts the ability to stream your favourite TV shows and movies in
4K Ultra HD, at a hardware event last month.
The US online firm claims to have updated hundreds of series and movies ready to stream on its Prime Instant Video service, in stunning 4K.
