If you can't see the new Middle Finger emoji on your iPhone – this is the reason why
APPLE has finally rolled out iOS 9.1 and brought the Middle Finger emoji to iPhone and iPad owners across the globe – but you might still struggle to see the rude new unicode character.
Apple rolled out the latest version of its hugely popular mobile operating system update – iOS 9.1 – earlier this week.
Amongst the 150 new emoji characters is the hotly-anticipated Middle Finger emoji.
The long-rumoured character arrived on Android handsets earlier this year – and was recently unearthed within WhatsApp.
With iOS 9.1, Apple has finally shown support for the rude character.
If you have updated your device, then you will be able to select the new Middle Finger from the stock emoji keyboard bundled pre-installed on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Tapping and holding on the chosen emoji will allow users to select the skin tone of the hand.
Amongst the new emoji is a scorpion, golfer hitting a ball, Vulcan salute and bow and arrow
Apple fans can then send the new emoji – as well as the new unicorn, turkey, lion, taco, burrito, scorpion, Vulcan salute, bow and arrow, dove and other new icons – in any text message, WhatsApp chat, tweet, email.
But some users will be unable to see the new characters.
iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch owners running a version an earlier version of iOS will see the new characters appear as a black rectangle.
A black rectangle will replace the emoji on an older iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch model
Those viewing the latest emoji variations in a web browser or Android device will get a different result.
If your Apple device supports iOS 9.1 then updating the operating system will display the emoji.
Unfortunately if you have got an older smartphone or tablet which is not compatible with the latest update, then you will have to guess whether your friends are sending a middle finger or taco.
