West Brom boss Tony Pulis revealed he has secret bonding sessions with Saido Berahino |
Baggies boss Pulis is pulling out all the stops to get his £25m-rated star's head right.
Berahino's Hawthorns career hit the buffers when the club blocked him moving to Tottenham. The furious striker declared he was going on strike, leaving Pulis and angry fans tearing their hair out.
But Berahino has won the fans back and now Pulis is going the extra mile to rehabilitate his wayward star.
"He's such an important player to the club. I needed to do certain things for him," said Pulis.
"I've met him away from the ground. I've been around his house and had a chat with him. We've had little sessions together.
"He's been as good as gold. He hasn't been in moaning and groaning.
"He's not at the level he was last year. He's still not quite as sharp but he's working on that and doing extra stuff."
Pulis revealed he had even told his young charge he needed to shed a few pounds.
Norwich boss will have to pick his players up after suffering a 6-2 defeat to Newcastle |
"He's still carrying a bit of weight. We've got to get that off him," said the manager. "That's just because he was in limbo for a few weeks, not playing, but he's got his head down."
A reborn Berahino would give Norwich boss Alex Neil enough worries without having to lift his players following the 6-2 defeat at Newcastle last time out.
"We focused on the negatives when we looked back at the game," Neil said.
"It is the heaviest defeat I have experienced as a manager, so you have to stick your chest out and make sure in the next game you go and perform a lot better.
"At this level, you have to make sure you have that attacking threat, but also keep the back door shut, but that is much more easily said than done."
